Intercollegiate Golf Tour

Competition Rules – 2008 - 2009

to download the rules click here

Eligibility

Participating colleges/schools must run a golf academy with at least 8 students.  All students shall have a golfing handicap of 18 or less.

Students must be studying a full time academic course (of at least 16 hrs per week) at the college/school they represent, and must be under 19 years of age at midnight on 31 August prior to the academic year of competition.

Students must be in receipt of a minimum of 6 hrs of specialist practical golf development per week under the guidance of a PGA Professional.  This may include playing, practice, coaching and golf related studies.

Intercollegiate Tour Format

The country will be split into regions depending on the location of participating colleges/schools.  Each region in the country has a maximum of 6 and a minimum of 4 colleges/schools.

Within each region every college/school shall host one 18 hole stroke play event in the year and pay any green fees required by the golf club hosting the event.

Colleges/Schools gain points based on their best 6 out of 8 gross and nett scores.  There will be a gross and nett competition at each event.  In exceptional circumstances a college/school may bring a minimum of six players to compete, and therefore all 6 scores would count towards the team’s totals.

Points will be awarded based on the total number of colleges/schools in the region.  If there were 6 colleges/schools in a region, the winning college/school at each tour event would receive 6 points, second place 5 points, third 4 points, etc.  Should there be a tie, the points available will be shared. (For example, if the first and second teams drew, then they would receive 5.5 points each.)

Should two or more players from a team not return a score for the 18 holes, then the college/school will be deducted 1 point from their points scored on the day.

Should the team not return a score for the day (ie. three or more players NR), then the college/school will score 0 points for the day.

If there is a tie after the six rounds, the winning team will be decided on the best team score from the last round.  If there is still a tie, then the 7th best score at the last event will count.  If still tied then the 8th score will count. If there is still a tie, then there will be a sudden death play off, with one member from each team to be selected.

The winning Gross and Nett colleges from each region will qualify for the finals and the chance to become National Champions in either Gross or Nett or Both.

If the winning college/school cannot attend the finals the second place college/school will be invited.  Eligibility for the finals should be known at the last event of the regional tours.

          Organisation

The competition will be organised and administered by the Competition Administrator.

To assist the Competition Administrator a regional representative from each of the regions will be appointed.  These people will form the committee.  The regional representatives along with the Competition Administrator will meet quarterly to consider developments, review rules and operational performance.

In matters of dispute within each regional tour, the appointed regional representative will arbitrate in the first instance.  Should the matter remain unresolved the issue will go to appeal at national level at the next meeting, where the committee’s decision will be final.

Competition Entry and Registration

All colleges/schools shall enter the competition by completing the registration forms in full and returning with the entry fee to the Competition Administrator before the 15th June 2008.

Entry fees, grants and sponsorship payments will be used to support the tour promotion, administration, competitions, coach and player development and quality assurance processes

Dates for each of the (up to 6) events in each region will be decided at the AGM at the national finals in the academic year preceding the competition.  Which college/school hosts each round will be decided regionally and disputes will be resolved by the other colleges/schools in the region.

All rounds will, as far as possible, take place on a Wednesday during term time at a reasonable start time to allow all colleges/schools to travel to the event in the morning.

All regional rounds must be played by the 22nd April 2009 (at the very latest), including any rearranged tour fixtures.  Colleges/schools entering this competition must accept that completion of fixtures within this time scale must take priority over other competitions.  (Please do not apply if you find this obligation unmanageable)

Every participating college/school MUST be represented at the AGM at the National Finals in May unless extenuating circumstances are provided and accepted by the Organising Committee

Player Registration / Commitment

All players from each college/school must supply to the regional representative, at the first round of the regional competitions; full name, age, address and academic course of each player.  Details of all players should be supplied on college/school headed notepaper to the regional representative.

All players should complete 18 holes of golf at each tour event, whether or not they have ‘No Returned’.  If a player walks in off the course, the college will be deducted 1 point from the gross and nett points acquired on the day.

Any college/school submitting false information or playing an ineligible player(s) may be withdrawn from the competition, subject to the submission of a written explanation of their action.

Conditions of Play and Fixture Obligations

Regional rounds should as far as possible be played on the dates agreed prior to the start of the Academic year of the competition.  Should a fixture not be played due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, it is the host college/schools responsibility to rearrange the round to an agreeable date with all other colleges/schools, and ideally as soon as practicably possible.

All rounds should be played on a Golf Course affiliated to the English Golf Union, with a Standard Scratch Score.

All rounds should be played in accordance with local club rules, the Rules of Golf and within the spirit of the game.

Team Colours.  As far as possible, each college/school should wear team colours, to promote the professionalism of the competition.  Teams reaching the finals MUST wear matching team shirts.

Measuring devices for distance ONLY may be used in tour events.  Slope adjusting devices will not be permitted, and any player found using them will be disqualified from the event.

Results – the host college/school of each regional tour event must collect and return the scores for their hosted event, including the CSS, to the Competition Administrator (and emailed to all participating colleges) within 4 days of the tour event.
